Well what can we say apart from a huge thank you to everybody who visited our venue in Pittenweem during the arts festival, and bought either raffle tickets, cards or any of the other items we had for sale. Our total at the moment is £2528.93 with still a few pounds to be gathered together. The mugs and tshirts went extremely well and we had to order more. Still waiting on confirmation of the tshirts, but we have the mugs in stock now, and they can also be purchased from Ian and Heather at Lounge About. Thanks to them for that.

The “Cellar” raffle was won by Robert Pass from Kinross, and we hope he enjoys his Michelin style dining, courtesy of Billy Boyter and his crew at the “Cellar”. The other raffle prize winners have been notified and we thank everybody who took part.

We were encouraged by the general support we received from locals and visitors alike, and it was good to hear so many people comment in an enthusiastic way, about what we hope to achieve.

Our next event is a coffee morning with home baking, in the kirk hall, James Street, Pittenweem, at 10am on Wednesday September 13th. Come and see us and find out about the event after that, which might be interesting.

Our venue in Pittenweem is across from the fish market in the old Gerrard’s building, where we will have bespoke mugs for sale and various other items, of which the exhibitors will donate a percentage of sales towards our memorial.

There will also be raffle tickets available.

We will have a stall in the old Gerrard’s building during the Pittenweem Arts Festival.

The purpose is to promote fundraising efforts to attain a target of £75,000.

Our aim is to create, and situate in a prominent and appropriate position on the foreshore of the Royal Burgh of Pittenweem, a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives and those who suffered great hardship in pursuit of “the fishing”.

After much consideration and advice from other charities, organisations, sculptors and architects, we have agreed that the total fundraising target to erect a permanent memorial will be £75,000.

We know it seems like a lot of money, but since August we have raised over £5,000, with a further £5,000 pledged.This figure will not only create and erect the memorial, but will also cover maintenance and care. If other towns and villages around the world can do it, so can we!!

We are looking forward to the challenge and the journey, and we hope you will join us.

Today we announce that our new website is now online.  It is still a work in progress, and there will be some minor changes later, but we wanted our supporters to have a bit more information.

The history section will have articles, which we think will be of interest to anyone who has connections with the fishing industry, in any of the East Neuk villages. Our first story is of the Arctic whaling, in which many men from Fife took part, in the most terrible conditions.

Our prime focus however will always be, raising funds to commemorate those of the local communities, who suffered great hardship and loss of life, by erecting a permanent memorial in tribute to them all.

How to donate details are not finalised yet, but they will be made public shortly.

We received a reply from OSCR, the Scottish Charity Regulator, today, to say that we have met their criteria and are now an official Scottish Charity.

Our official name is now, PITTENWEEM FISHERMEN’S MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION. Registered as a charity in Scotland number SC 047228.
