SATURDAY 23RD JUNE

We are holding a Table Top Sale in the Church Hall in James St, Pittenweem between 10.30am >  4.00pm.

On sale will be:
Handmade crafts, > Bric-a-Brac, > Tombola, > and Teas Coffees and Home Baking. We would love to see you there.

Thursday:  28th June:  At the Waid Academy, Anstruther, East Neuk Festival with assistance from Waid students will be performing a musical piece commemorating the fishing industry. THE BIG PROJECT: LOST AT SEA – Scanner & Waid Academy students – 6pm, Waid Academy. On a glorious Sunday morning competitors started gathering about 9 am for registration and bacon rolls etc. The format was a Texas Scramble and Shotgun start, and play began at 10 am sharp.
A couple of boats working close inshore and a large pod of dolphins meandering slowly up the Firth, as play went on, only added to the beauty of this 9 hole golf course. We could not have picked a better day.
Competition was fierce as we walked the course with some of the groups, and only a few muffled sweary words were heard, but this just added to the excitement of the day.

The first groups returned just after 1 pm, and slowly the scorecards were checked. Stuart Lowson won the prize for “nearest the pin tee shot” at the short second hole. A generous prize provided by John & Christine of “The Corner Shop”, was handed over as Stuart bubbled with excitement.
The winning score of 56 was by “The Rockies” team. There was a complaint made that they had fielded an ineligible player during the first round, but as he was only 5 years old, the Stewards decided it did not warrant suspension. The runners up spot was taken by team “St Fillan” with a score of 61.

Cups were presented to the winning team along with a box of golf balls, and the runners up received golf hats, and all of these items were donated by Ron Walker, of Lundin Pro Shop, https://www.the1stopgolfshop.com. All players were presented with a small medal in recognition of their part in our charity golf day.

Excellent meals were provided by the “Rockies Restaurant” therockiesrestaurant.co.uk”, thanks to Jock and Amanda as well as their staff for excellent service.
Our thanks also go to James and Wendy of G & J Wilson, (fishmerchants), St Monans, g & j wilson ltd for their generous sponsorship of this event.

This event was a genuine fun charity day of golf, and it seemed that everyone enjoyed the good day out, especially Ricky, so we heard.
Anster Golf Club are due enormous thanks for having the course in tip top condition, and we thank them for allowing us to use their course for this local charity event.

With team fees, a raffle of a golf day at LundinLinks, provided by Ron Walker again, and the sale of a few polo shirts and hats, our total raised on the day was £1200. An amazing amount. Thanks to all who took part or supported, and especially our raffle salesman Cameron who was undoubtedly the star of the show.

It would be good to do it again if possible.

7.   Private Gin Tasting and cocktails for a group of 12 people at Kingsbarns Distillery.
8.   Large deep edged framed canvas (90 x 90cm) by up and coming local young artist, Candice Neville. Titled “Wet Rot” the study is from Broughty Ferry.
9.   A pair of fresh local lobsters.
10.   Limited edition print titled “The Creel Maker” by John McGhie, no 59 of only 100. Original is in the Scottish Fisheries Museum.

Over the Easter weekend we held an exhibition of old photographs of the East Neuk, in the church hall, accompanied with tea/coffee and home baking. It was well received and the total raised of £1,680  exceeded our expectations. We are planning another in due course.

We have organised a charity dinner in the Dory Bistro on Pittenweem shore for the 26th April. The tickets have all been snapped up for that one I’m afraid.We have various events planned, charity golf day, indoor car boot sale, Christmas Fayre etc, and we will list them all shortly when we have the correct dates.

Our  pre-planning application to Fife Council has been accepted, and it seems to have been given a favourable response.  A full application will be submitted soon.

We had our first coffee/tea morning of 2018 on Wednesday 24th. Despite
winds gusting to over 60mph, many hardy souls braved the elements to
sample some of the delicious home baking. It was a great turn out considering severity of the weather. Hardy souls in Pittenweem!

The total raised for the project was £368.92, an excellent result. Thanks due to everybody who helped in baking and serving, and all who turned up to support us.
More events for this year will be announced shortly.

It’s not well known, but broadcaster Edith Bowman has a rich connection with the fishing industry in the East Neuk of Fife. Below is an account of some of the fishing history of the Margaret Lawson ML 286 which belonged to her great, great grandfather, Thomas Lawson.

We have to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everybody who attended our paintings and postcard exhibition on Saturday 30th September, and also the coffee morning on Wednesday 4th October in the kirk hall.

The weather on Saturday was fine and we had a great turnout. There was much discussion and finger pointing at the old postcards displayed, and there were some surprises in the variety of paintings as well. Although this was not a professional display, we had many complimentary comments on how as amateurs, we had set things up, and it was good to see so many people take an interest in the history and heritage of the Royal Burgh. We hope to have enough material to do something similar in the future. Thanks to everyone involved putting on the show.

The sale of our polo and t shirts, (polos currently on order) plus postcard prints, greatly helped in raising a total of £1424.77 for the Saturday. The Wednesday coffee morning and raffle also raised another £484.

This has been a great few weeks fundraising, and as well as meeting old friends, making new ones. We have other ideas which need consideration and organising, but be assured there will be events in the future.  We look forward to seeing many of you again.

Our first coffee morning in the kirk hall in Pittenweem, on Wednesday 13th September was a great success. Our total for the morning was over £440. An enormous thanks to everyone who attended and bought raffle tickets and baking etc. It was good to meet so many people and we appreciate the support considering it was a bit of a dreich day.

We will be having another one on Saturday 30th September. There will be one or two less tables, due to the fact we are combining it with an exhibition of paintings and old postcards of Pittenweem.

The paintings which will be on show, (we hope to have around 20), are pre 1980s and paintings that have not been generally seen by the public. The postcards have been blown up in size, and mostly in b&w, and pasted on black backing boards. They show how Pittenweem has changed through the years.

Come along and be nudged back to your youthful days, and see if you can recognize any old faces or boats. We would love to see you and have a blether. You can also find out more of our ideas for a memorial, and we would welcome suggestions.
